In Irish : Tulach an Iarainn     Administrative Unit : Parish     Audio File (.wav) Pronunciation Audio File

Administrative Details:

Description:
This Parish is restricted in area and derives its name from the townland and town of Tallow, famous in the 17th century as the centre of a considerable iron industry-mining, smelting, forgoing, and exporting. Proximity of the district to Lismore accounts perhaps for the unusually large number of early church sites as indicated in its place-names.
