Tuairisc:
The Parish derives its name from the townland on which stood the ancient church. Most of the parish is now included within the demesne of Curraghmore. Hence sub-denominations are comparatively few. The Fair of Clonegam, later called Fair of Portlaw, was held on May 28th in a field opposite the entrance to Clonegam Church.
